  • NACHA Direct Deposit Survey Highlights Opportunity to Save

    Adoption and awareness of direct deposit continues to build among consumers. A new survey finds that 82 percent of U.S. workers ─ crossing age, income and other demographic categories ─ are paid by Direct Deposit via ACH, up from 74 percent in 2011. Awareness is also strong, with 79 percent of consumers who do not use Direct Deposit via ACH reporting familiarity with the service, according to the results of a new survey conducted by Javelin Strategy & Research on behalf of NACHA—The Electronic Payments Association® and America Saves, a campaign managed by the Consumer Federation of America.

  • Thousands Save Part of Their Tax Refund Through SaveYourRefund

    America Saves and Doorways to Dreams Fund (D2D) are on track to close out a successful tax season and first year of the SaveYourRefund partnership. During the 2016 tax season, America Saves expanded the SaveYourRefund partner outreach by 65% to over 250 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs and over 800 VITA sites. The incentivized tax-time savings promotion has encouraged over 2,700 taxpayers to save a portion of their refund through IRS Form 8888 and approximately $2.1 million in refund dollars has been saved.

Challenging Herself to Save

It all started when Marchale Burton overheard Alabama cooperative extension colleague Isaac Chappelle, coordinator of Alabama Saves, explaining how saving just a little bit – even change – is all it takes to become a saver. “I thought about that,” Burton said, “and wanted to see if it would work.” So, she challenged herself to see how much change she could save.
